Nigeria Military Uncovers Boko Haram Terrorists Underground Logistics Hub, Fuel Dump in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics storage facility stocked with fuel, medical supplies and other critical materials after overrunning multiple terrorist enclaves in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State.

The breakthrough followed coordinated, intelligence-led offensives carried out on Sunday across Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma. During the operations, troops also repelled multiple armed drone attacks launched by insurgents, maintaining momentum and control of the contested axis.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday. He said the actions were conducted under Operation Desert Sanity and resulted in the destruction of several terrorist camps, significantly degrading the operational and logistical capabilities of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements.

According to Sani, troops advanced from their harbour areas on Sunday, January 18, 2026, and carried out deliberate, intelligence-driven clearance operations against identified terrorist positions in the three communities.

The operations were supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided continuous Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance coverage. Sani noted that the air-ground coordination enabled real-time tracking of insurgent movements, deterred reinforcements and enhanced the precision and confidence of ground troops.

During the clearance, soldiers recovered items of military and logistical value, including Baofeng radios, mobile phones, five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62×39mm special ammunition and 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition. Also recovered were Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, links of 12.7×108mm ammunition, diesel-powered grinding machines, bags of grains, a pick-up truck, large quantities of medical supplies, and an underground petroleum and oil lubricant dump.

Lt. Col. Sani said the seizures further weakened the insurgents’ ability to sustain operations in the area.

He added that the advancing troops came under armed drone attacks around midday, but successfully repelled them. A second drone attack attempted later in the evening was also decisively countered, forcing the terrorists to withdraw.

Despite the sustained engagements, Sani said troop morale remains high and operational efficiency intact. He described the security situation in the area as calm but unpredictable, noting that troops remain vigilant and on high alert.
