The Yobe State Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby girl in Kallalawa village, Damaturu.

  The spokesperson for the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 25, 2026. According to Abdulkarim, the newborn estimated to be one day old, was immediately taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed she was in stable condition.    "On 25th May, 2026, at about 1500hrs, operatives attached to A Division, Damaturu, rescued a newborn baby girl estimated to be one day old after she was discovered abandoned at Kallalawa Village,” the statement read.   "The infant was promptly taken to the Special Baby Care Unit, General Hospital Damaturu, where medical examination confirmed her to be in stable condition.    “The child was thereafter handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care and protection, while investigation has commenced to trace the mother and circumstances surrounding the abandonment.”

The suspect, identified in some reports as Malam Fantami (a native of Dikwa in Borno State), was apprehended on or around March 30 by troops of the 159 Battalion in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The arrest was based on credible intelligence indicating that he was acting as an informant for terrorists affiliated with ISWAP, potentially providing intelligence or logistical support to insurgent elements in the North-East. Another recent report from April 2, 2026, identified the suspect as 23-year-old Isah Mahammadu, a native of Kafetowa village in Yunusari LGA. Yobe Police Smash Inter-State Motorcycle Theft Syndicate, Arrest Suspect and Recover Five Stolen Motorcycles

 In a major crackdown on rising motorcycle-related crimes, operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have uncovered and burst an inter-state syndicate notorious for burglary, theft, and snatching of motorcycles in Yobe, Gombe, and Bauchi States. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the development in a statement released on Friday, March 6, 2026. According to the police, the operation, based on credible intelligence, culminated in the arrest of one Lukman Inusa, a 27-year-old resident of Potiskum Local Government Area. The suspect was apprehended on Monday, March 3, 2026, at about 1100 hours during a well-coordinated police operation. “During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led investigators to the recovery of five (5) motorcycles out of about ten (10) motorcycles he allegedly stole since the beginning of his criminal activities,” SP Abdulkarim stated.
