Lagos Seals Estates Without Approved Plans in Renewed Crackdown
The Lagos State Government has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal real estate developments, sealing several housing estates that lack mandatory layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. This renewed crackdown follows earlier warnings issued in 2025, when the government identified and listed 176 estates—primarily in high-growth areas such as Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe—as operating illegally due to non-compliance with planning regulations. Developers were initially given a 21-day ultimatum in August 2025 to regularize their documents and obtain the required approvals under the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law.
