High Specimen Transport Costs and Data Reporting Gaps Hamper Nigeria's Lassa Fever Fight – NCDC DG

 The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified high costs associated with transporting specimens and persistent gaps in data reporting as key obstacles impeding timely detection and effective response to Lassa fever cases across some Nigerian states. Speaking in Abuja, NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris explained that logistical and financial challenges in moving samples from remote communities to state laboratories continue to delay diagnostic processes. "Transporting samples from local areas to state hospitals is costly, and issues like fuel prices and transportation difficulties directly impact turnaround times," he stated. These bottlenecks contribute to inconsistencies in reporting and weak validation systems, ultimately affecting the speed and accuracy of outbreak interventions.
