 Nigeria's chronic electricity crisis has long symbolized wasted potential and systemic failure. The Presidential Power Initiative (PPI)—widely known as the Siemens deal—emerged as one of the most ambitious attempts to fix it. Signed in 2019 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, the €2.3 billion (approximately $2.3 billion at the time) partnership with Germany's Siemens Energy promised to overhaul the country's dilapidated transmission and distribution infrastructure, aiming to boost reliable power supply from around 4,000–5,000 MW to 25,000 MW by 2025 through phased upgrades.
