Ondo School Assault: Teen Student Remanded Over Severe Eye Injury to 13-Year-Old Female Classmate

 

An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 17-year-old secondary school student, Ilesanmi Emmanuel, in a juvenile correctional facility for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old female schoolmate, leaving her with a severe injury to her right eye.

The incident occurred on February 19, 2026, at approximately 7:41 a.m., during a school event at Mooreb Idea Primary and College in Akure, the Ondo State capital. According to police reports, the teenage defendant allegedly struck the victim, Olamide Kadiri, with a metal belt, resulting in serious harm to her eye.

Emmanuel was arraigned alongside three others accused of negligence in connection with the incident:

Mathew Ologunleko (70), the school proprietor;

Ade Agunbiade (40), a staff member; and

Anifowose Rebecca (38), the class teacher.

The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that the school authorities failed to adequately supervise the students, which contributed to the alleged assault. The charges against the defendants are contrary to and punishable under Sections 515 and 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Israel Tiwo, pleaded for bail for the proprietor and staff members. Magistrate Temitope Alphonso granted bail to Ologunleko, Agunbiade, and Anifowose in the sum of N500,000 each, with one surety in like sum.

However, the court ordered Emmanuel remanded in the juvenile correctional facility pending further hearing. The magistrate further directed that weekly medical reports on the victim’s health condition be submitted to the court.

The case has been adjourned to March 31, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
