  The House of Representatives has begun clause-by-clause consideration of President Bola Tinubu’s executive bill seeking the establishment of state police, with lawmakers indicating they may adopt the Senate-approved version with only minor amendments. Speaking during a meeting of the House Committee on Constitution Review, Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Committee, Benjamin Kalu, said the House would build on the work already done by the Senate to fast-track passage of what he described as a priority constitutional amendment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture. Kalu recalled that the House had earlier passed its own Constitution Alteration Bill on State Police on June 11 before proceeding on recess. Man arrested after dumping body of lady he allegedly k!lled in Ajah canal

  The Lagos state police command has commenced an investigation into an alleged m#rder case that occurred in the Ajah area of the state on July 14. According to the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adebisi Abimbola, the command received a tip that the accused had k!lled a yet-to-be-identified lady and was attempting to dispose of her body in a canal along Monastery Road, Mopo, Ajah, when he was apprehended by security guards in the area.   A video making the rounds online shows the body of the deceased inside the canal.   Abimbola said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately led a team of operatives to the scene, where the suspect was taken into Police custody.   Colobus congoensis, known to local people as Likweli, is just the fifth new monkey species scientists have identified in Africa in the last 75 years, according to a study published in the journal PLOS ONE. The monkey has a glossy black coat, long fur, a sweeping tail, and striking orange-cream facial markings, said researchers from Florida Atlantic University and the City University of New York Graduate Center in statements. They added that the species has distinctive cranial, dental, and skeletal characteristics that separate it from every other known African colobus monkey.   It is also smaller than related Colobus monkeys, weighing around 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms). The university stated that it is distinguished by sleek, light-reflecting fur and dramatic facial features created by long black facial hairs and large folded ears.   The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared an alleged drug kingpin, Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna (a.k.a Odogwu) and three of his associates: Emmanuella Chinonso Iroka; Nnamuka Ifeanyi Kingsley and Ekechi Franklin Chijioke (a.k.a Ekene Okwunaga) wanted over their involvement in the establishment of a clandestine laboratory, production of methamphetamine and drug money laundering.   In a statement released this morning July 17, the spokesperson of the agency, Femi Babafemi, said the suspects were declared wanted based on the order of Justice Iniekenimi Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo state, following an application by NDLEA in suit number FHC/OW/CS/22/2026 filed before the court on 3rd July 2026. US airstrikes have hit dozens of Iranian targets in the sixth night of new attacks

  The attacks come after US President Donald Trump had threatened to begin targeting Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and power stations, to pressure Iran to ease its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz.   He claimed the US is 'winning big in Iran' and that 'you will see the fruits of that labour very, very shortly'.   According to the NY Post, a number of bridges were destroyed in the airstrikes.
