On January 17, 2026, a housewife and her six children were brutally murdered in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano. The Kano State Police Command swiftly arrested three principal suspects—Umar Auwalu (23, nephew of the deceased housewife and alleged syndicate leader), Isyaku Yakubu (aka 'Chebe', 40), and Yakubu Abdulaziz (aka 'Wawo', 21)—during a sting operation ending early January 18. 

The suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to prior killings, including burning two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters. Governor Yusuf commended the police for the rapid arrests, directed thorough investigation/prosecution, and vowed full justice without leniency.

Emir Sanusi's Appeal: In statements reported on January 20–21, 2026 (e.g., Vanguard News, ABN TV), Emir Sanusi condemned the "barbaric" killings and urged Governor Yusuf to sign death warrants for any convicted murderers—specifically referencing this case and broader convicted cases. He emphasized:

Capital punishment (death penalty) must be enforced as a deterrent to curb rising impunity and heinous crimes.
Speedy trials are essential; once convicted, the governor should not hesitate to authorize executions.

Pardons or forgiveness for murderers are unacceptable, as "nobody has the liberty to pardon a murderer because it's not his right, it's only the prerogative of God."
