The then-22-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk star had openly flirted with a move to the Emirates, even engaging with Arsenal on social media since late 2022. Reports at the time described him as "devastated" when the Gunners refused to match Chelsea's ambitious bid structure—including an eye-watering initial £62 million fee (potentially rising to £89 million) and an eight-and-a-half-year contract.
