Breaking: Ogun Govt Visits TikToker Mirabel, Confirms Safety and Zero Tolerance for Sexual Violence
The Ogun State Government has confirmed the safety of TikTok content creator Mirabel, who recently made a viral allegation of sexual assault, and assured that she is receiving comprehensive medical and psychosocial support in a state-owned health facility.
State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, disclosed this following a visit to the survivor at the hospital, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry and the facility's Medical Director.
According to a statement from the ministry, the government has activated a multi-sectoral response to the allegation, prioritizing the welfare, dignity, and safety of the survivor. The Dapo Abiodun-led administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence, promising a full, transparent investigation to ensure justice.
The case, which originated from a viral TikTok video by Mirabel (@mirab351) detailing an alleged assault in the Ogijo area, was initially reported in Lagos before being transferred to Ogun State Police Command due to jurisdictional reasons. Police have confirmed ongoing investigations, with assurances that the survivor was never arrested (contrary to some social media claims) and remains under protective care.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid premature conclusions and allow the probe to unfold, emphasizing that both genuine survivors and any potential false reporting will be handled according to the law.
This development underscores the state's commitment to addressing gender-based violence swiftly and supportively.
