Diri: Bayelsa APC Congresses Unite Old and New Members as One Family, Eyes Tinubu's 2027 Victory"
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has hailed the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses in the state for successfully integrating longstanding party members with newcomers, describing the development as a major step toward party unity and dominance.
Speaking after participating in ward and local government congresses, Governor Diri expressed deep satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly process that saw leaders emerge through consensus and affirmation across various wards and local government areas.
"With the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses, old and new members of the APC are now one family in Bayelsa," Diri stated. "We have made it possible for all to integrate and work together for the good of our party."
The governor, who defected to the APC in late 2025 along with supporters, noted that the congresses have eliminated divisions and positioned the party strongly at the grassroots level. He emphasized that politics should unite rather than divide, serving as a platform for development and better living standards for Bayelsans.
Diri commended party delegates for their maturity and the hitch-free elections, predicting that the APC national leadership would be proud of Bayelsa's example. He particularly highlighted the dominance achieved in areas like Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA following recent congresses.
Looking ahead, the governor declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027 as the party's top priority. "We have to win elections from the ward level," he said, urging members to mobilize fully to ensure victory at all levels.
The congresses come amid broader accommodations for defecting governors nationwide, allowing integration of new influences while balancing structures for original members. In Bayelsa, consensus arrangements reportedly allocated key positions to both groups, with Diri's allies securing prominent roles in several chapters.
Party stakeholders, including Renewed Hope Ambassadors coordinators inaugurated earlier, have been tasked with sustaining the momentum toward stronger APC performance in future polls.
This unity drive is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the ruling party in the oil-rich state ahead of key electoral battles.
