El-Rufai Hits Back: Files N1bn Suit Against ICPC, IGP Over 'Unlawful' Raid on Abuja Home

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), and others. The lawsuit stems from what he describes as an unlawful invasion and search of his Abuja residence.

Key Details of the Suit

The originating motion, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, was filed on February 20, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, through his counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN). El-Rufai is seeking several reliefs, including:

A declaration that the search warrant (allegedly issued on February 4 by a Chief Magistrate in the FCT) was invalid and unlawful.

A declaration that the invasion and search of his residence at House 12, Mambilla Street, Aso Drive, Abuja, on February 19, 2026, violated his constitutional rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, and privacy under Sections 34, 35, 36, and 37 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

An order for the return of any items seized during the operation.

N1 billion in general, exemplary, and aggravated damages for alleged trespass, unlawful seizure, psychological trauma, emotional distress, humiliation, and reputational harm.

The suit claims the execution of an invalid warrant led to a high-handed and unconstitutional breach of his premises.
