Lagos Police Arrest Officers Over 'Accidental' Shooting That Killed Two Innocent Passersby in Alagbado

 The Lagos State Police Command has arrested several of its officers following a fatal shooting incident in the Alagbado area that claimed the lives of two innocent passersby.

The incident took place on Friday during a pursuit operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters (commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys”) near the Africa Independent Television (AIT) vicinity in Alagbado, a busy suburb on the Lagos-Ogun boundary.

According to police sources and witnesses, the officers opened fire while chasing the suspects, resulting in accidental discharge of gunshots that struck and killed two bystanders. No details have been released about the suspects' status or whether any were apprehended.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command's Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement posted on X: “The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody.”

She added that Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh has directed a comprehensive investigation into the event and ordered heightened security deployment in the area to maintain calm and prevent unrest.

The arrests signal a prompt response from the police leadership amid recurring concerns over civilian casualties during operations in densely populated Lagos neighborhoods. Public reaction on social media has called for accountability and stricter protocols on the use of firearms in pursuits.

As investigations continue, authorities have urged residents to remain law-abiding while assuring transparency in the probe. The identities of the victims remain undisclosed pending family notification and further inquiries.
