Major Blow to Bandits: Army Rescues 26 Victims, Blocks Jailbreak in Northwest and North-Central Nigeria

The Nigerian Army has achieved significant successes in ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the Northwest and North-Central regions, rescuing 26 kidnapped victims and thwarting an attempted jailbreak at a correctional facility.

According to reports from credible military sources cited by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), these operational gains occurred within the last 24 hours as of February 5, 2026. The troops disrupted multiple terrorist activities and prevented a direct attack on the Kangiwa Correctional Centre in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, foiling what could have been a major jailbreak attempt by terrorists.

The rescues highlight the military's intensified efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and terrorism in these volatile zones, where such incidents remain a persistent security challenge.

This development underscores the Nigerian Army's proactive role in safeguarding communities and correctional institutions amid heightened threats in the region.
