Malami, Son Remain in DSS Custody as Court Adjourns Trial to Feb 27 Over FCT Election Holiday"

 The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the ongoing trial involving former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, to February 27, 2026.

The adjournment, announced on Friday, February 20, 2026, came after proceedings could not proceed due to a public holiday (declared as a work-free day) by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. This was in observance of the upcoming Area Councils election scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The case, instituted by the Department of State Services (DSS), involves allegations including terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms. Malami and his son had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges when arraigned on February 3, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

Justice Abdulmalik ordered that the defendants remain remanded in DSS custody pending the next hearing. The February 20 date had been set for consideration of bail applications and potential commencement of trial, but the public holiday declaration led to the postponement.

This development means Malami and his son will continue in custody for at least another week as the court resumes on February 27.
