NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results, Records 71.63% Pass Rate

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 71.63% of candidates achieving five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Announcing the results during a press conference at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination nationwide. This comprised 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.57%). Of these, 95,160 candidates actually sat for the exams.

However, the release also highlighted challenges with examination integrity. Prof. Wushishi revealed that 9,016 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice — a 31.7% increase from the 6,160 cases recorded in the previous year. As a result, NECO has recommended sanctions for certain supervisors and examination centres found culpable, and blacklisting measures are being applied to deter future irregularities.

Candidates who participated in the 2025 SSCE External can now check their results via the official NECO portal at results.neco.gov.ng by entering their registration number and purchasing a result-checking token if needed.

This release comes after the external exams, designed for private candidates seeking to remedy deficiencies or qualify for further education. Education stakeholders have commended the performance in core subjects like Mathematics, while calling for stronger measures to curb rising malpractice trends.
