Nigerian Troops Eliminate 16 ISWAP Fighters, Free 11 Kidnapped Victims in Borno Raid"

Nigerian troops have achieved a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency in Borno State, neutralising 16 ISWAP terrorists and rescuing 11 kidnapped victims in a series of decisive operations.

The successes were reported by the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), following a failed midnight attack by ISWAP fighters on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auno on February 5, 2026. Troops from Sector 1 repelled the assault with precise firepower.

Building on this, on February 9, 2026, troops—working in synergy with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)—launched a bold counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Government Area. They pursued the retreating terrorists to the Gidan Kaji axis, neutralising 16 ISWAP fighters while forcing others to flee with severe injuries.

The operations also resulted in the rescue of 11 kidnapped victims, who were safely reunited with their families. Additionally, troops recovered logistics items critical to terrorist activities, including over 20 bicycles, weapons, and other supplies. In related actions the same day, troops foiled a kidnap attempt along the Buratai-Kamuya road and arrested suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers conveying drugs near the Bukarti axis.

This latest operation underscores the Nigerian military's continued resolve to degrade terrorist capabilities, disrupt their supply lines, and protect civilians in the North East region.
