Troops Neutralise Boko Haram Commander, Arrest Drone Supplier in Adamawa Raid

 

In a series of coordinated counter-insurgency operations, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have dealt significant blows to Boko Haram networks in Adamawa and Borno states, neutralising a key insurgent commander and apprehending a suspected drone and logistics supplier.

According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation HADIN KAI, troops working with local vigilantes, hunters, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) conducted targeted actions on Thursday.

In one operation along the Visik River line in Madagali Local Government Area, troops ambushed suspected Boko Haram fighters, neutralising Abdullahi Mafa—a former hybrid commander operating in the Madagali axis—along with at least two other insurgents in related engagements across the region. An AK-47 rifle and loaded magazine were recovered from one of the neutralised terrorists.

Acting on intelligence, troops raided Madagali Motor Park around 6:30 p.m., arresting 64-year-old Dauda Usman Gubula, alleged to be a collaborator responsible for supplying drones to insurgents. These drones are reportedly modified locally with explosives and used in attacks against security forces and civilians.

Items recovered from the suspect included two aerial drones, drone accessories, and 20 solar power banks, underscoring the insurgents' growing reliance on commercial technology for surveillance and attacks.

In a separate but related action in Hong Local Government Area, troops arrested 28-year-old Ismail Muhammed, a suspected logistics supplier, recovering an AK-47 magazine, 7.62mm ammunition, military accoutrements, and assorted foodstuffs.

Elsewhere in Sector 2 (Borno State), troops repelled an insurgent attempt to breach positions in Ngamdu and neutralised a terrorist informant.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their dedication and urged sustained momentum to dismantle supply chains, disrupt operations, and restore peace in the North-East.

These developments come amid heightened concerns over insurgents' use of drones, as previously noted by defence authorities. The arrests and neutralisations represent progress in degrading Boko Haram's logistical and operational capabilities, though challenges persist in the region.

The suspects remain in custody for further investigation.
