Anambra Police Exhume Body of 52-Year-Old Man After Cousin Confesses to Murder, Concealing Corpse for Eight Months

 Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have exhumed the corpse of a 52-year-old man, Chinedu Ezeani, eight months after he was allegedly murdered by his 35-year-old cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani.

The incident occurred on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 pm, when the suspect allegedly killed Chinedu Ezeani at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi. Chukwudalu Ezeani then buried the body in a shallow grave within his own compound in a bid to conceal the crime.

The case was initially reported as a missing person incident at the Amichi Police Station. However, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, revisited the matter following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

During interrogation, Chukwudalu Ezeani reportedly confessed to the murder and led police operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the remains were exhumed. The corpse has since been deposited for forensic examination.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said: “Preliminary investigations reveal that on 1st August 2025, at about 8:00 pm, the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months. Upon interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the corpse was exhumed. The remains have been deposited for necessary forensic examination, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

The case, which started as a routine missing person report, highlights the persistence of police detectives in resolving cold cases through intelligence-led investigations.

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to justice for victims of crime and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment.
