Erdogan Accuses Israel of Pursuing Ideological Agenda Beyond Security in Attacks on Gaza, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iran

 

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sharply criticized Israel's military operations across the Middle East, asserting that the strikes on Gaza, followed by Yemen, Lebanon, and most recently Iran, are driven by more than just security concerns.

Speaking on Tuesday at an iftar event at the presidential complex in Ankara, Erdogan described Israel's leadership as influenced by “a network that has gained power and sees itself as superior to others,” which he said is “gradually dragging the region toward a disaster.”

“We all know that the attacks targeting Gaza first, then Yemen and Lebanon, and most recently Iran, are not solely motivated by security concerns,” Erdogan stated. He added that it is “no coincidence” that these actions coincide with the promotion of “absurd notions” such as the “delusion of ‘promised lands’” and apocalyptic scenarios.

The remarks come amid an escalation that began with prolonged Israeli operations in Gaza since October 2023, followed by actions against Houthi targets in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting February 28, 2026. Those Iran strikes reportedly killed over 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with Iran retaliating via drone and missile attacks on Israeli and other targets.17fac8

Erdogan has repeatedly condemned what he calls a “bloodthirsty network” for targeting civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon — patterns he says mirror earlier devastation in Gaza. In related speeches, he has referred to events in Gaza as “genocide,” criticized attacks on medical personnel, and called for diplomacy to prevent wider regional conflict.

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has echoed these concerns, accusing Israel of “political assassinations” in Iran and exacerbating Lebanon’s humanitarian crisis. Erdogan has urged an end to the “senseless, unlawful” war involving Iran, positioning Turkey as a proponent of dialogue over escalation.

The comments reflect Turkey’s longstanding criticism of Israeli policies under Erdogan, who has positioned Ankara as a vocal defender of Palestinian rights and regional stability amid the broadening conflict.
