FRSC Swift Response Saves Lives in Abuja Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving 39 Persons on AYA–Nyanya Route

 

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that a total of 39 persons were involved in a serious multiple-vehicle road traffic crash along the Kugbo Furniture Market axis of the AYA–Nyanya route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident occurred at about 4:48 p.m. (1648HRS) on Monday, 16 March 2026, and involved six vehicles, including two tippers, a commercial bus, and private vehicles.636ca1

According to a statement signed by FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu (mnipr), no fatalities were recorded. However, two male victims sustained injuries ranging from bruises to fractures. One of the injured persons received immediate first aid at the scene.d4240f

FRSC operatives from the Zebra 12 Unit responded swiftly, arriving at the scene within four minutes of the distress call. The team, led by the Unit Commander, successfully extricated a trapped victim from one of the heavily damaged tippers, administered first aid, and evacuated him to the National Hospital, Abuja, for further treatment.

The Corps also deployed heavy-duty recovery equipment to remove the obstructing vehicles, coordinated traffic control to prevent gridlock on the busy corridor, and restored normal traffic flow. The vehicles involved were later handed over to the Karu Police Division for further investigation.564ad1

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the team’s prompt action and reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to rapid emergency response, professional rescue operations, and effective traffic management to protect lives on Nigerian roads.

Motorists have been urged to adhere to speed limits, maintain proper lane discipline, and remain vigilant, especially on high-traffic routes like AYA–Nyanya.

This latest incident underscores the importance of defensive driving and quick emergency intervention in minimising the impact of road crashes in the FCT.
