Whoopi Goldberg isn’t holding back about her love life at 70. The EGOT-winning actress and longtime co-host of The View made headlines on the March 18, 2026 episode when she candidly revealed she still enjoys bar-hopping for no-strings-attached encounters — which she playfully calls “hit-and-runs.”

The conversation kicked off during the “Hot Topics” segment while discussing a Cosmopolitan essay in which a woman in a happy long-term relationship admitted she sometimes misses the thrill of casual flings and spontaneous nights out. Co-host Joy Behar turned to Goldberg and asked if she could relate.

“I am single,” Goldberg replied with a laugh. “Yeah, I bar hop, I go hang. And I do hit and runs when I need it.” She added firmly, “I am not married to anybody [and] I don’t have responsibilities.”

The Sister Act star, who has been married and divorced three times — first to Alvin Martin (1973–1979), with whom she shares daughter Alexandrea; then to cinematographer David Claessen (1986–1988); and finally to actor Lyle Trachtenberg (1994–1995) — made it clear she has zero interest in settling down again.

“I don’t want to live with anybody,” she has previously explained. “I have lots of people that I love, but I don’t need them living with me. I don’t need to be sleeping with them.” Goldberg has long described herself as “fundamentally a selfish person” when it comes to relationships, telling Interview magazine earlier this year that she realized “not everybody’s cut out to be in a relationship. Some people are just cut out to be one-night stands.”

She has even set ground rules for her casual dates: “Hit-and-runs are great. I don’t mind those. But you can’t spend the night.” And her simple philosophy? “I want to see you when I see you, and then you go.”

Co-hosts reacted with a mix of laughter and agreement. Sara Haines confessed she craves the freedom of single time — “eating my ice cream and no one’s watching” — while Sunny Hostin joked about enjoying solo evenings with wine and jazz when her husband is away.

Goldberg has consistently maintained that being alone doesn’t mean she’s lonely. In a February 2026 interview, she emphasized she’s “not good at relationships” because they require thinking about someone else — and she already has enough on her plate with family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her work on The View, where she has moderated since 2007.

At 70, the star of The Color Purple, Ghost, and countless other classics continues to live life on her own terms — proving that for some, the single life isn’t just acceptable… it’s exactly what they ordered.
