Maiduguri blast: Northern governors, Ndume condemn attack, call for urgent action

 Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who chairs the NSGF, described the explosions as "heinous, barbaric, and a direct assault on innocent lives." Speaking on behalf of his fellow northern governors, he expressed profound sorrow for the victims and urged immediate, coordinated action to end such terrorism. The forum emphasized that these acts aim to instill fear and undermine ongoing peace efforts in the region but will not succeed in breaking the resilience of northern Nigerians.

Senator Ndume's Strong Denunciation

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, strongly condemned the attack as "barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on innocent citizens," especially in densely populated areas. He called for urgent, decisive measures by security agencies to prevent recurrence, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance—particularly ahead of upcoming festive periods like Eid. Ndume stressed that such violence cannot be tolerated and demanded proactive steps to safeguard lives and restore normalcy.

These condemnations follow Governor Babagana Zulum's earlier statement, where he described the incidents as "despicable, cruel, and cowardly," especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and urged calm alongside increased security in public spaces and places of worship.

The attacks come amid intensified military operations in areas like Sambisa forest, which some officials link to the insurgents' desperation. Authorities continue investigations, with calls growing for enhanced intelligence, community vigilance, and sustained federal support to eradicate the lingering threat in the northeast.
