Massive Grassroots Boost for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election: All 774 LG Councillors Align with City Boys Movement in Owerri

 In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election, councillors from Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas have formally joined the City Boys Movement, pledging unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The declaration was made during a high-profile gathering in Owerri, Imo State, at the weekend, where the councillors teamed up with the youth-driven City Boys Movement to form what they described as an “unstoppable force” for the President’s return to office.

Hon. Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, President of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, addressed the gathering and announced that the nation’s 8,809 councillors are mobilising across 176,836 polling units nationwide to deliver a landslide victory for Tinubu in the January 2027 polls.

“The figures are staggering. This is a movement poised to sweep across the nation. Any agenda that seeks to undermine this will be rendered a futile attempt to obstruct progress,” Nwikegwu declared.

He described the partnership between the councillors and the City Boys Movement — led by the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu — as a game-changing alliance that will harness grassroots influence at the local level.

“As the closest representatives to the people, councillors are the vanguards of progress,” Nwikegwu stated, adding that the South-East region is “abuzz with excitement” to welcome the movement, signalling a significant shift in political alignment ahead of the polls.

The Forum president praised the Tinubu administration for landmark achievements, particularly the restoration of financial and administrative autonomy to local governments, massive investments in national stability, expanded social programmes for the poor and vulnerable, and a renewed focus on agriculture and rural development.

Nwikegwu lauded Seyi Tinubu’s leadership of the City Boys Movement as “visionary” and a “beacon of hope” for Nigerian youths and grassroots communities.

“We are ready to ride the tide of progress. Let us show the world that we are a people committed to progress and determined to succeed,” he concluded.

The development comes as the City Boys Movement continues its nationwide outreach and empowerment initiatives, positioning itself as a key mobiliser of young Nigerians and local stakeholders in support of the Renewed Hope agenda.

Political analysts say the councillors’ endorsement could prove decisive, given their strategic proximity to voters at the ward and polling unit levels.

With the 2027 election cycle heating up, the alliance between Nigeria’s local government leaders and the City Boys Movement sends a clear message: the grassroots machinery for President Tinubu’s re-election is already in motion.
