Ondo Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Suspect for Alleged Rape and Murder of Elderly Woman in Akoko Community

 The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of an elderly woman identified as Veronica Olaseni.

The incident occurred on Friday in Iboropa Akoko, a community in the Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.

According to police sources, the suspect was apprehended following diligent tracking efforts, including the use of the victim's phone, which aided investigators in locating and arresting him.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest on Sunday, stating that the command received a report of the heinous crime and swiftly mobilized to ensure the suspect was brought to justice.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted before being killed. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including motive, remain under active investigation by the police.

The command assured the public that a thorough probe is ongoing to uncover all facts and ensure the suspect faces the full weight of the law. The body of the deceased has been recovered and deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while the suspect is in custody assisting with investigations.
