DSS Operatives Arrest 25-Year-Old Female Ammunition Courier in Kano, Recover 200 Rounds Destined for Bandits in Katsina

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly trafficking ammunition intended for bandits operating in Katsina State.

The suspect was apprehended at one of Kano’s major motor parks while attempting to transport approximately 200 rounds of brand new live ammunition, which she had allegedly purchased from Nasarawa State (Lafia area) for onward delivery to Kankara in Katsina State.aafb6c

According to security sources, Nafisa Usman, who hails from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, concealed the ammunition inside sacks of garri (cassava flakes) and rice to evade detection. She was intercepted based on credible intelligence following her arrival in Kano from Nasarawa.a958d4

DSS operatives described the suspect as a specialist courier who supplies ammunition to criminal elements, including bandits and terrorists active in the North-West region. The arrest underscores concerns over the increasing use of female couriers in arms trafficking networks that exploit commercial motor parks and interstate routes across northern Nigeria.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the ammunition was meant for bandit groups operating in the forest areas around Kankara. The suspect has been taken into custody for further interrogation, while the recovered items have been preserved as evidence.

This operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the DSS and other security agencies to disrupt the supply chains fueling banditry and insecurity in the North-West. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional accomplices are being sought.

The development comes amid heightened security concerns in Kano, a major transit hub connecting several northern states battling insurgency and bandit activities.
