Trump Declares 'Total and Complete Victory' as US and Iran Agree to Two-Week Ceasefire

 

U.S. President Donald Trump has hailed a newly announced two-week ceasefire with Iran as a "total and complete victory" for the United States, describing it as "100 percent" successful with "no question about it."

In a brief telephone interview with AFP shortly after the truce was revealed, Trump expressed strong confidence in the agreement. He stated that the deal secures key U.S. objectives, including the temporary reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz for international shipping and assurances that Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium will be "perfectly taken care of."

Trump announced the ceasefire on Truth Social delaying he had agreed to suspend U.S. bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks in exchange for Tehran’s “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING” of the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is critical for global oil flows, and its closure had raised fears of energy market disruption.

The president also credited China with helping persuade Iran to negotiate as a U.S. deadline loomed, during which Trump had issued stark warnings of potential widespread strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges. He described the framework as involving around 15 points, with most elements already agreed, and voiced optimism for a longer-term settlement.

The truce comes amid heightened tensions following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iranian targets. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has separately claimed a “historic victory,” asserting that its actions forced the U.S. to accept elements of its 10-point plan and that most of Tehran’s military objectives were met.

Details of the full agreement remain limited, and both sides appear to be framing the pause in hostilities as a win. Trump declined to specify what would happen if the two-week period expires without further progress.

The development has eased immediate concerns over oil supplies, with reports indicating a drop in global oil prices and positive reactions in financial markets.
