Wisconsin Mother Charged with Stabbing 14-Year-Old Daughter to Death, Claiming It Was to 'Protect' Her from Elon Musk
A 41-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide after authorities say she fatally stabbed her 14-year-old daughter and then told a 911 dispatcher she did it “to protect her from somebody else” – later specifying billionaire Elon Musk as the perceived threat.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by local media, Tyiece Oninski called the Rock County Communications Center’s non-emergency line on March 20, 2026, and confessed to killing her daughter, Kuren Rein. During the roughly 13-minute call, Oninski reportedly said, “I murdered [her] to protect her from somebody else, period,” before naming Musk. She also requested an ambulance for herself and a hearse for her daughter.
Investigators found Oninski at a home on Gorton Street in the Town of Turtle with self-inflicted wounds after she allegedly attempted suicide following the killing. Toxicology reports showed benzodiazepines, amphetamines, and THC in her system, according to court records cited by outlets including WMTV, FOX 11, and the Independent.
Oninski appeared in Rock County Court on Monday, where she faces the homicide charge. Details about any prior connection between the family and Musk—or why Oninski believed her daughter was in danger—have not been publicly disclosed in the complaint or initial reports. Authorities have described the statements as part of her account to dispatchers and investigators.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the bizarre reference to Musk, with some coverage labeling it as evidence of possible paranoid delusions linked to mental health issues or substance use. No evidence has emerged suggesting any actual threat or interaction involving the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.
This remains an active investigation. Oninski is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
