  The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the de#th of a yet-to-be-identified female guest at a hotel in Calabar South Metropolis of the state.   According to the command's spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the deceased's body was discovered by the management of the hotel in the early hours of today, September 8. He stated that the lady was discovered lifeless on the floor with samples of drugs and other substances around her, with marks of v!olence spotted around her neck. The police immediately cordoned the area, retrieved the body, and deposited it in the morgue.   He said the hotel receptionist has been arrested while efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing male companion.

  A 54-year-old Customs officer, Etteng Ise, has d!ed in a car accident along the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State.   The accident occurred near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area at about 2:56 p.m on Monday, September 7.   Sunday Eitokpah, the police spokesperson in Cross River, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Calabar on Monday, September 7.   Mr Eitokpah, an assistant superintendent of police, said Mr Ise, who served at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River, lost control of his vehicle while avoiding a pothole.   He said the vehicle veered off the road into the bush and collided with a tree.   The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where he was confirmed de@d.   He said Mr Ise’s remains had been deposited at the hospital mortuary

  Former DeRidder, Louisiana U.S., mayor Misty Roberts has been released from jail after serving a 90-day sentence for s£xu@lly ass@ult!ng a 16-year-old boy at a 2024 pool party.   Roberts, 44, was convicted in March of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behaviour with a juvenile. She was sentenced in June to 90 days in jail, a $5,000 fine and two suspended five-year prison sentences. She is also required to register as a s£x offender. Prosecutors had sought the maximum 17-year sentence and later asked Judge Kent Savoie to reconsider the punishment. The judge rejected the request on August 31, allowing Roberts to complete her sentence and walk free on September 7.    The sentence has sparked outrage among some residents and the victim’s family, who described it as far too lenient given the victim’s age.   Savoie has also acknowledged that he made a mistake by relying on more than 30 previous cases resolved through plea deals when determining Roberts’ se...

  The bodies of four family members whose plane from the Bahamas crashed on the way back to Florida have been found by relatives who took up the heartbreaking search effort, their family has revealed.   Mario Lamar, 80, who was piloting the doomed craft, along with his wife, Lili Lamar, 79, and two of their grandchildren, 28-year-old Sofia Sosa and 22-year-old Christian Sosa, were on board the private plane that went down in the Atlantic Ocean Monday morning, vanishing near North Andros Island. The search and recovery mission was conducted alongside family members and civilians who answered our call for help. Our relatives ultimately located our loved ones and had to bring them aboard their own vessels,” Silvia Larrieu, Mario and Lili’s niece, said in a statement to the Miami Herald.    “We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us, searched alongside us, and kept our family in their prayers.
