NDLEA Ends 12-Year Manhunt: Notorious Drug Kingpin ‘Kanmo-Kanmo’ Arrested for Alleged Murder of Three Officers

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully arrested a long-wanted drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, popularly known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” ending a 12-year manhunt triggered by his alleged role in the brutal killing of three NDLEA officers in 2014.

The arrest took place on Friday, January 16, 2026, when tactical teams tracked the suspect to his hideout in Owode town, Ogun State, following credible intelligence. During the operation, 69 kilograms of skunk (a potent strain of cannabis) were recovered from the location.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Jimoh has been on the agency's wanted list since June 15, 2014. On that day, he allegedly mobilized armed thugs to launch a barbaric mob attack on a team of NDLEA officers attempting to arrest him at his enclave. The assault resulted in the cold-blooded murder of three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure and two others, who were hacked to death by the mob. Jimoh escaped the scene, evading capture for over a decade despite multiple encounters with the agency.

Notably, in August 2023, NDLEA operatives raided his residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, where he narrowly escaped while agents recovered 139 sacks of skunk weighing 1,922 kilograms. The property, used as a drug warehouse, has since been forfeited to the Federal Government following court proceedings.

Jimoh, described as notorious for drug trafficking, repeated evasion of arrest, and mobilizing armed thugs against security agents, now faces prosecution for his alleged involvement in the 2014 killings and ongoing drug-related offences.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the officers involved across various commands for their resilience and professionalism. He described the arrest as “a triumph of justice” and a powerful demonstration of the agency's unwavering commitment.

“Today, we have proven that the NDLEA does not forget its own. We do not forget the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the service of our fatherland. This arrest is for the families of those three officers who have waited 12 years for justice,” Marwa stated. He added that the operation sends a clear message to all drug barons and fugitives: “You may run, and you may hide for a season, but the long arm of the law will eventually find you.”

The breakthrough occurred amid a wave of nationwide operations. In recent days, NDLEA teams made significant seizures and arrests, including:

410,800 tramadol pills, 84.2 litres of codeine syrup, and other psychotropic substances along the Onitsha-Asaba expressway in Delta State;

Over 9.6 kilograms of various cannabis strains in Oyo State;

320 kilograms of skunk and cannabis seeds in Edo State;

118.1 kilograms of skunk in Lagos; and

116 kilograms of cannabis from a warehouse in Enugu.
