First Lady Tinubu, Gowon, Obasanjo, Jonathan Set for NASS Christian Chapel Dedication on March 1

Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan are scheduled to jointly inaugurate a newly built 750-capacity Christian chapel at the National Assembly Complex on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

The event, organized by the Christian Legislators Fellowship of the National Assembly, will feature the commissioning and dedication of the non-denominational worship centre. It is expected to draw a host of prominent Nigerians, including Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Daniel Okoh; President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Francis Oke; and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, among other senior clerics, policymakers, and eminent personalities.

The chapel project was initiated in May 2019 under the leadership of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. It addresses long-standing calls by Christian lawmakers and staff for a dedicated prayer and fellowship space within the legislative complex. Proponents emphasized that the facility promotes religious inclusion, parity, and a structured environment for spiritual activities without interfering with official duties.

According to the Christian Legislators Fellowship, the dedication marks a significant milestone for the Christian community at the National Assembly, strengthening spiritual fellowship among legislators and staff.

The inauguration is anticipated to be a major gathering, highlighting unity and faith in Nigeria's legislative arm amid diverse religious representation. Further details on the programme are expected to be released closer to the date.
