Amotekun Rescues Health Workers Abducted in Midnight Raid on Akure Primary Health Centre

 

Panic gripped residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, early on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as suspected gunmen stormed a government-owned Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the Oke Ijebu area, abducting at least six health workers on night duty, including interns.9fce04

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a bus around 2:00 a.m., forcefully entered the facility located opposite Mega School, overpowered staff, and swiftly rounded up the victims before whisking them away to an unknown destination. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of healthcare workers and the vulnerability of public health facilities amid rising insecurity in parts of the state.

However, security operatives from the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) responded promptly and rescued the abducted health workers. Some reports indicate that five or all six victims were freed, while security agencies continue to hunt for the perpetrators.
