Gawuna Dumps APC for ADC, Pledges Unwavering Loyalty to Kwankwaso Ahead of 2027

 In a major political realignment in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy Governor, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Gawuna’s defection comes just days after he resigned from the APC in a letter described as “voluntary and personal” addressed to the party chairman in Gawuna Ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area. He had also stepped down as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to political appointees eyeing elective positions.36c252

The high-profile registration ceremony took place on Tuesday at Gawuna’s ward in Nassarawa LGA, where he received his ADC membership card. The event drew thousands of enthusiastic supporters and was attended by prominent figures, including former Kano Governor and Kwankwasiyya movement leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; immediate past Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo; and the Kano State Chairman of the ADC, Musa Ungogo.6ca6da

Speaking at the event, Gawuna pledged his loyalty to Kwankwaso, whom he described as the strongman of Kano politics. He assured that he would not betray the trust reposed in him and had always accorded the former governor due respect.

“Wearing a red cap does not dignify loyalty,” Gawuna stated, in an apparent reference to symbols associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Kwankwaso, who had himself registered with the ADC on Monday, cautioned against any attempt to rig future elections, warning that such acts would not be tolerated. He directed every ADC member in the state to act as a mobilization agent, urging supporters to register with the party and obtain their voter cards to actively participate in the electoral process.18be3b

Gawuna expressed gratitude to his supporters and party leaders, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the ADC’s structure across Kano State.
