Jealous Rage in Ogoja: Man Allegedly Hacks Girlfriend to Death Over Infidelity Claims at Farm

 

A 35-year-old man, Malime Ejor (also referred to as Malime Sunday Ejor), has been arrested for the alleged murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Moshie Igu (also known as Moshie Lucy Igu), following a violent dispute over suspected infidelity.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m., at a farm in Nwang Village, Ekajuk community, in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. According to local sources, the suspect reportedly took the victim to a nearby stream close to the farm, where he inflicted machete cuts on her, leading to her death.

Eyewitnesses described how a heated argument erupted between the couple over accusations of extramarital affairs. The disagreement quickly escalated into violence. One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, recounted: “We heard the commotion and noise and we rushed to the scene, but we were unable to prevent the situation because he was already using a machete on her.”

The community’s youths intervened, apprehending the suspect and handing him over to security operatives. Police later rescued him from an attempted mob action by angry residents.

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the arrest. Spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah stated that operatives promptly visited the scene upon receiving the report. “The suspect is currently in custody, and a full investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said. Eitokpah added that the suspect was rescued from mob action “for his safety” and that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Calabar for a thorough and discreet investigation.

The victim’s remains are yet to be deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Ogoja, as necessary arrangements are being concluded.

The tragic event has sparked widespread outrage in the Ekajuk community and surrounding areas, with residents demanding swift justice. Some women and youths from Nwang I & II and other parts of Ekajuk Clan reportedly stormed the Area Command/Division in Ogoja to express their anger, though reports on further protests remain unconfirmed in detail.

This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unchecked jealousy and domestic violence in relationships. Authorities have urged the public to allow the police to handle such matters through due process to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Police investigations continue, and the suspect remains in custody as the matter proceeds.
