Tinubu Inaugurates Landmark Lagos Projects, Insists Development Must Be Seen and Felt by Citizens

 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that genuine development must be visible, tangible, and directly experienced by the people, as he inaugurated major infrastructure projects in Lagos State during a two-day working visit.

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu commissioned the newly completed Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information System (LAGIS) Building, and the multi-agency Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex (BATAC) in Alausa, Ikeja.a623a7

The 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, originally conceived in 2002 during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos Governor and completed under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, serves as a critical transport corridor linking Opebi and Allen to Ikorodu Road. It aims to significantly ease chronic traffic congestion along the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota axis.

Equipped with pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered streetlights, embedded service ducts, and a robust stormwater management system to mitigate flooding, the bridge is designed not only for current needs but for future urban demands.

Speaking at the event, President Tinubu described the bridge as “more than infrastructure; it is a bridge to opportunities.” He added: “In a busy city like Lagos, vehicular movement is not just about commuting; it is directly tied to economic well-being. When traffic flows, productivity improves. When time is saved, businesses grow. When access is easier, living standards improve.”

He emphasised that these projects reflect a deliberate commitment to people-centred governance and demonstrate that Lagos has not been overwhelmed by the challenges of rapid urbanisation. “Lagos is working, Lagos is moving forward, Lagos is setting examples, and Nigeria needs to emulate Lagos,” Tinubu stated, urging other states to adopt similar standards of project delivery and innovation.b8d75d

The LAGIS Building represents a major leap towards fully digitised land administration, aimed at eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks, strengthening property rights, and enhancing the ease of doing business to global standards. Tinubu described it as “the future of transparent and efficient land administration,” noting that data and technology are now essential instruments for modern governance.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex (BATAC), built on 2.01 hectares with over 7,362 square metres of office space, conference facilities, and parking for more than 300 vehicles, will improve coordination among government agencies and boost service delivery efficiency. Tinubu accepted the naming of the complex with humility, acknowledging it as recognition of his foundational contributions to Lagos’ institutional development.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led the state’s presentation, highlighted that the projects align with the THEMES+ agenda and focus on results rather than mere plans. He noted that the bridge and associated facilities address mobility, environmental resilience, and governance efficiency, ultimately improving quality of life for residents.

The high-powered delegation at the inauguration included several APC governors, the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, and other senior officials, underscoring the collaborative spirit behind the achievements.

President Tinubu’s message was clear: development is not about rhetoric or abstract plans but about concrete projects that citizens can see and feel in their daily lives — reduced travel time, better services, enhanced economic opportunities, and improved living standards.
