Dangote Refinery Resumes Petrol Sales in Naira, Fixes Ex-Depot Price at N1,215 per litre
Dangote Refinery has restarted selling petrol, also known as premium motor spirit (PMS), in naira. The refinery made this announcement on Wednesday.
On July 14, Dangote Refinery stated it would begin selling petroleum products to marketers in dollars. Following the resumption of petrol sale in naira, the refinery has set the gantry price at N1,215 per litre.
“Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in naira, offering some relief to marketers and consumers. The gantry price is set at N1,215 per litre,” the refinery said.
This new price marks a N140 increase from the earlier cost of N1,175 per litre.
On July 20, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) reported that marketers had temporarily stopped loading petrol at the Dangote refinery.
Oyewole Akanni, the zonal chairman of IPMAN for the western zone, explained that this situation arose because Dangote Refinery had paused its petrol loading operations.
Akanni noted that marketers were forced to buy petrol from private depots at much higher prices.
“The lack of fuel at some filling stations and the shutdown of others are due to changes in the cost of transporting fuel from depots,” he mentioned.
He also pointed out that after Dangote Refinery halted PMS sales, owners of private depots raised their prices.
